Hon. Justice Elizabeth Ama Oji was born in Etiti-Edda, Afikpo South Local Governement Area, of Ebonyi State. She attended the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, where she obtained her LLB (Second Class Upper) in 1994; and the Nigerian Law School, Lagos in 1995, graduating with a Second Class Upper. She was called to the Nigerian Bar in March 1996. She further obtained a Masters Degree in International Law and Jurisprudence from the University of Nigeria, in 2004, and another Masters Degree from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, in International Humanitarian Law. She also holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD) in law, from the same Nnamdi Azikiwe University (2008).
After her Youth Service in 1997, Hon. Justice Elizabeth A. Oji, joined the academia. She started with the Faculty of Law, Abia State University, Uturu, where she taught from 1997 to 1999. She later joined the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in 1999 as Assistant Lecturer, and rose to the rank of an Associate Professor in 2013. She was appointed a Judge of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria in July 2017. As an academic, Hon. Justice Elizabeth Oji taught and researched in various areas, including, Public International Law, Industrial/Labour Law, International Criminal Law, International Humanitarian Law, Law of Labour Relations, Minority Rights Protection and Jurisprudence. At Nnamdi Azikiwe University, She equally served in various Faculty and University Committees, including as a Sub-Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies.
She has written over 90 articles/papers both nationally and internationally. She is the author of the book, “Responsibility for Crimes under International Law”, and co-author of another book, “Employment and Labour Law in Nigeria”. She has been in the Editorial team of many journals/newsletters, and also co-editor to the book, “Commercial Law and Practice in Nigeria”. She is a two time recipient of the United Nations Fellowship in international law, and an Alumna of The Hague Academy of International Law. She has served as the Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Enugu State Branch, and National Treasurer, of FIDA Nigeria (2006-2012). She was an active member of the Enugu Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Hon. Justice Elizabeth A. Oji is married to Elder (Chief) Ama Emea Oji and they are blessed with children.
