Senate confirms Hon Justice B. B Kanyip as President National Industrial Court of Nigeria.
The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the 5th day of November 2019 confirmed the nomination of His Lordship, Hon. Justice B. B Kanyip as the President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria.
Recently, President Muhammadu Buhari, following the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC), forwarded the name of Justice B. B Kanyip to the senate for confirmation as substantive president of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria.
On the 2nd October 2019
Hon. Justice Kanyip was sworn in by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Tanko Muhammad, as acting President, following the retirement of Justice Babatunde Adejumo who attained the retirement age of 65 years on 1st October 2019.
This confirmation is sequel to the presentation of the report of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters.
The National Industrial Court has exclusive jurisdiction on civil causes and matters relating to or connected with any labour, employment, trade unions, industrial relations and matters arising from workplace, the conditions of service, including health, safety, welfare of labour, employee, worker and matters incidental thereto or connected therewith.
The Senate President, Distinguished Senator Ahmad Lawan, congratulated the nominees and wished them the best of tenure.
